Key West and the middle Keys

We had a little mini vacation this week. We put Alfie (Gretchen's Affen Pincer) in the kennel Tuesday morning and drove down accross Alligator Alley, Florida Turnpike and Overseas Highway arriving in Key West about 2:30 (5 hours). The ride down through Key Largo, Islamorada, Conch Key, Marathon, Seven Mile Bridge (where they blew up the old bridge in the movie "True Lies") and a collection of smaller keys that eventually brought us to Key West is absolutly breathtaking. The shades of the water unforgetable. KW is a fun place and party centeral. We walked all over the downtown area and made stops at Jimmy Buffets Margaretaville, Hemingway's old hangout Sloppy Joe's, Mallory Square where they have the sunset show with the most amazing street performers and the marina area where there's a great restuzrant named Turtle Kraals (I found out that's not a mans name but rather a water pen they used to keep tirtles in ). KW is a anything goes type of town. On the street you'Ll see gays, street petformers, girls with body painted tops and may even run into a celebratiy. My next blog will tell about lobstering off Conch Key.

  1. Hey Dad! Great post! Sounds like you had a great trip! You know I love Key West for all the reasons you cite (Hemingway connection, the island feel, the party atmosphere) and can't wait to get back. Loved seeing your pics on FB.
